August 2026 RMIP Updates

Sharing RMIP-Generated Scientific Data

Thank you to all study teams that have provided responses and supporting documentation. The BioData Catalyst Data Management Core is currently working with the NHLBI Data Access Committees to finalize study-specific registration strategies for each RMIP study. You will soon receive an email containing instructions, required forms, and supporting materials to guide this process.

Study registration is a critical prerequisite for sharing RMIP-generated data and maximizing its long-term scientific value. Because registration and review activities can take weeks to months to complete, we strongly encourage study teams to begin as soon as materials are received and allocate sufficient time and resources to this effort. Early engagement will help avoid delays and ensure studies are prepared for future data sharing and manuscript-related requirements. The BDC Data Management Core will continue to aid in this process. Please reach out if you have any questions to jstratford@rti.org or attend weekly BDC Office Hours on Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00PM ET.

RMIP Research Spotlight

We hope you’ll be able to join us for our next research spotlight featuring Dr. Christopher Breuer of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Breuer will present on his clinical trial evaluating safety and efficacy of the second generation TEVG as vascular conduits for Children with congenital heart disease. Register Today for the event on Wednesday, September 9th at 1:00-2:00 PM ET.

Presentation Abstract: Children with single-ventricle congenital heart disease currently receive synthetic Fontan conduits that cannot grow and are prone to thrombosis and stenosis, leading to repeat interventions and long-term complications. Tissue engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs) using bone marrow–seeded biodegradable scaffolds have shown that these conduits can remodel into living, growing neovessels, with a characteristic phase of early narrowing followed by spontaneous reverse remodeling. This clinical research integrates computational modeling and mechanobiology to define the drivers of neotissue formation and stenosis and to optimize second-generation TEVGs, which are being tested as extracardiac Fontan conduits in an ongoing clinical trial.

We hope that you will be able to join us for this spotlight.

If you have recently submitted or published a manuscript related to your RMIP award, please submit the citation to jstratford@rti.org.

Many scientific journals now require investigators to provide an accession number for shared data to be supplied during manuscript submission. BioData Catalyst can generate this identifier. To avoid delays at submission, please reach out early (email to jstratford@rti.org, or come to office hours) to ensure you have your accession number ready for manuscript submission.

Meet with Us

BDC now has office hours each Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM ET to assist investigators with aggregating and harmonizing RMIP study data on the ecosystem.
