Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page!

This resource compiles the most common questions raised during our kickoff meeting, orientation meetings, and communications with study teams. We hope this page provides clear and helpful answers. Please note that this FAQ page will be updated regularly as new questions arise, so be sure to check back periodically for the latest information. If you have a question that is not answered here, please leave a comment on this post so we can address it promptly.

  1. Q: What is the role of the Data Management Core?
A: The Data Management Core is here to collaborate to prepare a high volume dataset. The DMC will work with study teams to come up with study-specific linkage strategies, support data harmonization, and study registry and ingest into the data repository. The DMC anticipates regular interaction with study teams to tailor the best path forward to capitalize on the strengths of the study team and address any gaps to maximize the value of RMIP data.

  2. Q: How will cell characterization data be provided to study teams?
A: As study teams upload targeted assay, observations, and phenotype data to BioData Catalyst, the Data Management Core will review the data and collaborate with investigators to create a linkage map. The linkage map clearly identifies the relationship between the data and samples and will inform how to structure the file linker prefix. Then the Data Management Core will apply these linker prefixes to the cell characterization data, which are then moved into the "Harmonized Data" directory of the study project.

  3. Q: How do I gain access to the study-specific project created for my study on BioData Catalyst - Seven Bridges?
A: The BioData Catalyst - Seven Bridges accounts were created on behalf of study teams by the Data Management Core. To gain access to your study's project you will need to sign up for a BDC account and inform the DMC that you need access. You can do this by sending an email to NHLBI-DMC@rti.org with the subject header "RMIP - access to BDC-SB project". The email should include your project affiliation and BDC username selected during registration. The DMC will then add you to the appropriate project.

  4. Q: What are the expected timelines for preparing data for sharing at BioData Catalyst?
A: The process for preparing data for sharing depends on a number of different factors and will vary by studies. In general, the process takes 1-6 months to complete the four phases of the data journey:
    • Phase 1 - Preparation: 1-6 weeks
    • Phase 2 - Aggregation: 1-3 weeks
    • Phase 3 - Harmonization: 2-12 weeks
    • Phase 4 - Repository Ingest: 2-8 weeks

  5. Q: Where can I find the NIH approved project plan for my study?
A: The project plans were created in collaboration with the IDCCH and subsequently approved by NIH. The plans are hosted and maintained by the IDCCH team at Georgia Tech, however, for your convenience we have also uploaded the plan to the Study Documentation directory of the BioData Catalyst - Seven Bridges project prepared for your study.

  6. Q: Will the IDCCH-generated data be able to download for further analysis?
A: The raw data generated by the IDCCH data will be maintained and supported on BDC and initially will not be available for download. However, analysis results or figures generated from the data will be available for download immediately. After the harmonized and linked data is ingested into the BDC repository then all data will be available for download.

  7. Q: What other sources of support are available to prepare and share RMIP data?
A: The Data Management Core was created to collaborate with RMIP investigators to create a high value dataset for sharing with the public. In addition to collaboration meetings with the Data Management Core, there are several self-service and interactive resources that are available to investigator including:
