Principal Investigators (PIs) with approved DARs can give lab staff access to the data hosted in BDC by giving their lab staff "designated downloader status" on dbGaP. However, listing researchers in dbGaP DAR applications as internal or external collaborators does not grant them access to data hosted in BDC. Internal collaborators must have “designated downloader status,” and external collaborators must obtain DAR approval independently.
